Signs Your Floor Needs Levelling

You do not need special tools to get an idea:

Feel it: you notice dips or a rocking feeling underfoot
Straight-edge test: lay a long straight edge or spirit level on the floor. Any visible gap underneath is a sign of a problem
Look at the old floor: ripples, bumps or gaps in your current flooring often mean the base is uneven underneath

Our Floor Levelling Process

Inspection

We measure the floor, find high and low areas, and look for cracks, old adhesive and other damage.

Moisture Testing

Moisture is one of the most common reasons floors fail. We check the slab before we start so the compound and your new flooring suit the conditions.

Grinding and Floor Preparation

We use concrete grinding to remove high spots, coatings, glue and weak surface material. This gives the compound a clean surface to bond to. We use dust extraction while we work.

Priming

We apply the right primer for the surface and product, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Levelling and Curing

We apply the levelling system that suits your floor, then let it cure properly before your flooring installer starts.

Floor Levelling Methods We Use

There is no single fix for every floor. We choose the method based on how uneven the floor is and what will be installed on top.

Skim Coat / Feather Coat

A thin layer for light surface corrections.

Full Flood Coat

Covers the whole floor when the entire area needs levelling.

Self-Levelling Compound

Flows out to a smooth, flat surface and works well over larger areas.

Liquid Screed

Suits large areas that need very accurate flatness.

Sand and Cement Screed

Used for bigger height changes, ramps and build-ups.

Ramps and Falls to Drains

Controlled slopes for wet areas, balconies and entries.

We can also level over some existing surfaces, such as sound tiles or a stable timber or plywood floor, when the surface is properly prepared. We will tell you upfront if removal is the better option.

How do I know if my floor needs levelling?

Look for dips, humps or a rocking feeling underfoot, or place a straight edge on the floor and check for gaps. We also measure it properly during our inspection and tell you if levelling is needed for your chosen flooring.

Do I need floor levelling before installing vinyl or hybrid flooring?

Very often, yes. Vinyl and floating floors show and suffer from uneven bases. A flat surface helps the floor look right and helps protect your warranty.

Do you need to grind the concrete first?

In most cases, yes. Grinding removes high spots, glue, coatings and weak material so the levelling compound bonds properly.

How long does floor levelling take?

Many home jobs take one to two days, depending on the size and condition of the floor. Larger or commercial jobs may be done in stages.

How soon can new flooring be installed after levelling?

That depends on the product and the thickness. Some rapid-setting systems allow flooring within 24-48 hours, but we always follow the product’s curing instructions. Always confirm the required curing time on your product data sheet.

Can you level over tiles or an existing floor?

Sometimes. It is possible when the existing surface is solid, clean and properly prepared. If it is loose or damaged, removing it first is the safer choice.

Can you level a timber or plywood floor?

Yes, in the right conditions. The floor must be stable and sound, and we use products designed for that type of surface. We will check it first and advise you honestly.
